Dr. LU Qi is the chief expert and the Director of the Institute of Desertification Studies, Chinese Academy of Forestry. He also serves as the Director of Institute of Rocky Desertification, Southwest Forestry University.
Professor Lu received his Ph.D. in Ecology at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. He has been engaging in combating desertification and integrated ecosystem management for over 20 years, and has successfully conducted more than 50 research, assessment and demonstration projects. In addition, he has headed and completed several international and national cooperative research programmes. He has published more than 20 books, 180 research papers in international and national scientific journals; and won 4 scientific and technological awards at the national level and 5 scientific and technological awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. In addition to the Journal of Resources and Ecology, he is also a member of the editorial board of such magazines as the Journal of Natural Resources, the Acta Ecologica Sinica, the Journal of Deserts Research, the Science of Soil and Water Conservation, the Forest Research, and so on.
He hold a concurrent post of the Secretary General of the National Technical Committee for the Standardization of Desertification Prevention and Control, and has been listed in the UNCCD/CST Independent Expert Roster and Consultant of ADB/GEF Project.
